Chicago Street Theatre Brings Marina V Concert to Valparaiso

The One-Night Jam is making its return to Chicago Street Theatre. Russian-born vocalist/pianist Marina V will fill the theatre with her unique sound at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9. “She’s a classically trained pianist with a good, solid pop sensibility,” explained Paul Braun, the event’s organizer. “Her music is soothing but emotionally charged. Marina’s voice can range from an intimate whisper to a soaring full-song within the same piece.”

Braun came across one of Marina’s CDs by accident. He’s not sorry. “I fell in love with her music and her voice,” he said. Braun sent her a friend request on Facebook, and the two kept in contact. “I thought to myself that she is exactly the kind of artist I had booked during the run of the One-Night Jam series at CST.” When Marina told him she would be in Chicago for a concert the weekend of October 9 and was looking for another show while in the area, Braun jumped at the chance to book her.

He describes her personality as “unassuming” and “extremely charming.” “I think her music will appeal to anyone regardless of age. If you’re looking for screaming rock, this is not for you. But if you enjoy depth and texture, heartfelt lyrics and honest emotion, and world-class piano playing, you will definitely enjoy Marina V.” As far as the future of the One-Night Jam, Braun is excited. “Over the years, I’ve heard from a lot of our fans about how much they miss the shows, and the artists also have expressed interest,” he said. “They tell me they enjoyed playing CST as much or, in some cases, more than anywhere else they’ve played.

Tickets are priced at $12 each and are available by calling the box office at (219) 464-1636, Ext. 1, or online at www.chicagostreet.org/BuyTickets. To listen to a sample of Marina’s music, please visit www.chicagostreet.org/Music.
