Chicago Street Theatre Now Enrolling for Children’s Workshops

CST-Childrens-TheaterChildren's Theatre Workshop at Chicago Street Theatre will begin its fall semester the week of Sept. 17. Deadline to enroll is Friday, Sept. 14, but a discount applies for those registering by Sept. 7.

All school age children are eligible to participate, and there are classes designed for every level - beginners through advanced.

Students learn through storytelling, music, imagination, structured play, favorite stories, and creative expression. Some of the benefits and results of these classes include improved concentration, discipline, self-esteem, empathy, understanding, problem-solving, and collaboration.

Classes run through the week of Dec. 10. Class does not meet the week of Nov. 19 due to Thanksgiving. Director of Education Lisa Formosa-Parmigiano and Peyton Daley are the instructors.

New this semester are "specials" in voice and movement. These two-hour workshops will provide specialized teaching. The voice portion practices articulation, projection, and breathing - an introduction to speaking clearly and strongly on stage and in life. The movement portion develops awareness of "taking and sharing" space on stage, as well as moving comfortably from head to toe. Students ages 10-18 enrolled in the advanced sections may register. Enrollment in one workshop each semester is recommended. The fall session dates are Oct. 5 and Nov. 9, 2012. Spring session dates are March 15 and April 5, 2013.
