Although they are just a few weeks away from their family production of Beauty and the Beast, there is plenty coming up for adult audiences and players at Chicago Street Theatre. On Saturday, August 23, the group located at 154 W. Chicago Street will hold the Unified Auditions for the first half of its 60th Anniversary of plays. The "1st Round" of these auditions will look at actors for their productions of Frankenstein, A Charlie Brown Christmas (adult cast), and Tammy: The Coming of Age Story About a Girl Who is Part T-Rex starting at 10 a.m.. Directors for the three productions will be looking at actors starting with general readings in the morning, a lunch break and working with performers for their individual shows until 2 p.m.
Information concerning the cast requirements and the dates and times of the performances can be found on the theatre's website at ChicagoStreet.org. CST is a not-for-profit volunteer organization serving the Northwest Indiana community and there are no paid roles in any of the productions. Script sides, audition materials and registration forms can also be found on the website. Tammy: A Coming of Age Story... directed by Andy Urschel and Tim Gleason will be auditioning actors age 14 and up for their cast of the show written by CST member Julia Weiss. Auditions for the holiday production of A Charlie Brown Christmas will be for adults on the 23rd with Junior Cast roles for teens being auditioned at the Junior Unified Auditions on Sunday, August 24 at 1 p.m.
In addition to trying out for the plays, adults can also become members of Community Theatre Guild and be part of the exciting events and volunteer opportunities taking place during Chicago Street Theatre's upcoming 60th season of plays. Volunteers are always needed to create the sets, costumes, lighting and sound for the shows, as well as provide guest services with box office and ushering.
For those wanting a taste of what's to come in the group's anniversary season, Chicago Street Theatre will be holding their annual Season Preview Party on Sunday, August 31 at the theatre with appetizers and a cash bar starting at 6 PM. The free event will feature cuisine from some of CST's participating Dining Partners: Bon Femme; Chocolate Cafe; Don Quijote; Martinis; and Pikk's Tavern. At press time more restaurants are being added to the line-up. Audiences will also see performances of scenes from the 2014-2015 Season. People wishing to attend this event must RSVP by contacting Box Office Manager, Mike Hite at email@example.com or by calling 219-464-1636 X1. Box Office hours are 10 AM to 2 PM weekdays and two hours prior to performances.
Adults can also be part of Chicago Street's Season 60 by becoming a season ticket subscriber or making a donation to the theatre's new Club 60 to support the arts. Next up for the theatre is the family production of Beauty and the Beast opening August 29 and running through September 13.
