CHS Art Student Wins Downtown Banner Design Contest

Mae_Bass_Contest_WinnerThe Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce has announced the winner of its Downtown Beautification “Essence of Duneland” contest. From among fourteen Chesterton High School students from Mrs. Kristin Renehan’s art classes, the design of Mae Bass was chosen to adorn the banners that will line Broadway and Calumet in historic downtown Chesterton later this summer.

Each year, the Chamber partners with Reprographic Arts to coordinate this Downtown Beautification Banner project. “This year, we wanted to showcase the extraordinary artistic talent that is being nurtured within Duneland School Corporation. The students’ submissions were incredible, and I think our members and residents were very impressed with how the beauty and fellowship of the Duneland community is being internalized by these young artists.

The fourteen designs from Renehan’s art students were voted on both electronically and within a series of public voting stations throughout Chesterton over the course of two weeks. Winner Mae Bass was awarded a $25 Chamber gift certificate, which she plans to spend in downtown Chamber member businesses. Additionally, Bass’s design will be featured on each Downtown Beautification Banner.
