CHS Art Students Thank Their Public for Attending Their Exhibit

Wednesday April 10-12 proved to be a successful three-day event for CHS art students who participated in the annual IB ADVANCED ART exhibit.

Opening Wednesday evening to a steady crowd of family members, friends and fans, they also greeted public visitors who were notified either by posters, or other social media. The event continued the next school day and evening to even more visitors. Teachers brought their classes to the exhibit both Thursday and Friday morning during the school day, making the gallery spaces, art work, themes and media, the subject of relevant discussion in their classrooms.

Exhibitors were praised for their creativity in both their individual works of art as well as their attractive gallery displays, which were created either from panels that have been recycled, restored or renewed given from multiple sources over the past five years. Other students managed to bring in their own structures. Many used school theater props, lights or favorite things from home to embellish their displays.

The fifth annual event was dismantled and put into storage by Friday, 3 PM clearing way for this group of International Baccalaureate and Senior Portfolio students to begin working on GIVE BACK projects to serve and assist our school and local community with their creative talent and problem solving.

First up, each donated a small painting to the Duneland Education Foundation for their annual fundraiser on Friday April 19 at Sand Creek. They will also work on outdoor murals for Phoenix Center, a bereavement center in Valparaiso for 5-18 year olds in their new labyrinth garden and exhibit works of art with their teacher, Kirsten Renehan at the May 31 South Shore Orchestra Concert at Ivy Tech Auditorium theater. The works created will be painted to RED a world premier composition that will be featured in the concert themed Passionate Colors. For more concert information, check SouthShoreOrchestra.org.
