One grant went to special education teacher Michael Whisler, who received a $1600 grant for 4 IPads for his Learning Explosion project. Learning Explosion is the opportunity for high school Special Needs students to enhance their learning in such areas as English, Math, Social Studies, Spelling, Reading Comprehension, etc. through the use of an IPad. Students will have the opportunity to expand their basic academic skills and life skills on their own through the use of this technology in the classroom. With the use of IPads in the classroom, verbal and non-verbal students will create the excitement of learning to expand their ability to express themselves.

The language team will learn how to transform their curriculum into a working document that will serve as framework to increasing proficiency-based classrooms on an ongoing basis. The new curriculum will enable students to see the connection between what they are learning and real world issues that matter to them increasing their foreign language proficiency.
