The City of Whiting is announcing a new way for drivers to pay the parking meter for both vehicles and boat trailer parking. Drivers can now use Passport, a mobile pay app that allows users to pay for vehicle parking and boat trailer parking from their phones. This new mobile option will be available at Whihala Beach and Whiting Lakefront Park.

Passport is the leading mobile payments provider for parking and transportation, and has launched in large cities like Boston, Chicago, Muncie, IN and Toronto.

With Passport, there’s no need to walk to the pay station and display a receipt on your dashboard -- everything can be managed from your phone. After making a payment, users can monitor their parking with the countdown timer in the app and even extend their session remotely if needed (up to the maximum allotted time).

“We’re thrilled to be launching our mobile solution in the City of Whiting,” said Joe Stahura, Mayor of Whiting. “Our app will provide flexibility to beachgoers and boaters at Whihala Beach and Whiting Lakefront Park.”

When paying for parking at the lot locations as well as the meters around Park Road near Whihala Beach, users will enter zone number 46394. At the Whiting Lakefront boat parking location, users will enter zone number 288.

The PassportParking app is free to download from the iPhone App Store and Android Google Play. Users can also manage their parking online at www.ppprk.com
