City Participates in Day of Caring on August 26

2011-Day-of-Caring-City-WorkersFriday, August 26 was the Day of Caring in Valparaiso, marked by several volunteer projects that were completed throughout the Valparaiso community. Nine City of Valparaiso workers from public works, horticulture, building department and the neighborhood liaison spent two hours refreshing the Vale Parkway extension between Campbell and Valparaiso Streets. Besides cleaning up debris and trimming brush, the volunteers pulled out invasive plant species in an effort to avoid economic harm to the ecosystem in that area. The hard-working volunteers pulled out Queen Anne’s lace, Asian honeysuckle, ragweed, and Siberian elm trees, filling a 20 yard dumpster, which measures 3.5 feet high, 8 feet wide, and 20 feet long, in two hours.
