Clean Energy Coalition Hosts Launch Event

The Sierra Club will be launching the Clean Energy Future Coalition at their event on Wednesday, November 16 at 5:00 PM at Long Beach Old School Community Center in Long Beach, IN. The coalition is made up of more than 40 businesses and organizations in northwest Indiana in support of NIPSCO's creation of their clean energy programs. The launch represents a comprehensive effort by businesses, labor groups, and environmental groups to move beyond burning coal to clean energy production and help to transform northwest Indiana into the hub of Indiana's clean energy economy.

The coalition stands in support of the programs NIPSCO has already created and also asks that NIPSCO's CEO ensures these programs are fully developed this month, so that the community can see construction begin on the wind and solar projects. The coalition will unveil 1,000 petitions from NIPSCO customers in the form of a 50 foot-long banner that will be unraveled and presented during the event.

The speakers for the event will address job creation, solar and wind potential in northwest Indiana, the health impacts of coal, and the environmental benefits of renewable energy. The speakers will be:

  • Tom Conway, Blue Green Alliance
  • Steve Francis, Hoosier Sierra Club
  • Russ Draper, Home Energy LLC
  • Matthew Kubik, IU Professor and Author of "The Green Age".

This event is open to the public, and appetizers will be served.
