CMS Students Celebrate Pi Day

CMS-Pi-DayThe Chesterton Middle School seventh grade math department celebrated their sixth annual Pi Day this year by reading books to the students, researching the history of Pi, participating in a variety of 'irrational' activities, and the crowning of the Queen, King, Princess and Prince of Pi Day from each team.

Pictured are royalty winners from each class donning their Pi crowns, front seated, left to right, Haley Snemis, Amber South, Aaron Griggs, Nolan Poczekay, Kristina Stevenson, Warda Yakub and Korie Berdine. Back, math teacher Linda Didelot, Assistant Principal Mike Okeley, Chris Sexton, Seth Rettew, Noah Dujmovich, Samantha Runions, Tyler Bush, Principal Mike Megyesi, and math teachers Suzanne Amling and Kim Connelly.

Students competed in the crown-wearing contest by reciting as many digits of Pi as they could remember and by a word search that contained words related to Pi. The CMS student who memorized the most digits of Pi was Kristina Stevenson with an amazing 230 digits of Pi followed by Nolan Poczekay with 220 digits (beating his brother’s earlier record of 207). Pi Day would not be complete without the eating of real "pie" as a culminating activity.
