Valparaiso Police will be hosting an event called “Coffee and Chocolate Milk with a Cop in Central Park” on Tuesday August 12 from 8-10 a.m. Officers will gather to display their vehicles, provide a K9 demonstration and meet community members in Central Park (corner of Lincolnway/Lafayette St) downtown Valparaiso. Chocolate milk has been added to encourage children to attend and meet officers.
It’s a simple concept. No speeches, just police and community members coming together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee and chocolate milk. This event provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work throughout the city.
This event will be held in connection with the weekly downtown farmers market. Everybody is encouraged to attend and meet the officers. Improving communications and building partnerships between police and the community will only help build a stronger community.
