Community Baby Shower Focus of 2012 Day of Caring

unitedway_portercountySuccess By 6 is a Regional United Way early childhood initiative that works to improve the lives of young children by engaging with community partners, including business, health and human services, education, government and community groups. We use an outcome-focused approach to study the problems facing children, ages 0-6, in their communities, and develop effective solutions.

On Friday, August 24th, 2012, the annual United Way Day of Caring will take place in the region. This event celebrates volunteerism throughout NWI, bringing corporate volunteers through the doors of local non-profits to lend a hand. Businesses, churches and civic groups form teams then choose a project they will complete on the Day of Caring. This year Success By 6 with the United Way Regional Volunteer Center will host the "Community Baby Shower" as a Day of Caring project, which will be available online at www.nwivolunteer.org on June 1st (Please see attached baby shower wish list). These new items can be collected by your organization with a collection bin at your business. If you wish to make it a fun event have a Company Baby Shower with refreshments and ask all your employees bring in a new baby item prior to the Day of Caring, August 24th. On that, day the new items collected can be dropped off at your local United Way office.

The local United Way offices for item drop offs are :Lake Area United Way, 221 West Ridge Road, Griffith, IN 46319 United Way of Porter County, 951 Eastport Centre Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383

We invite you to become part of Success By 6's newest strategy and participate in the Community Baby Shower during the initial phase of new item collection, the second phase of sorting items, or the third phase of hosting the actual Community Baby Shower for participating families from partner agencies. We hope you will develop a team for item collection and continue with us to volunteer for phases two and three.

The Community Baby Shower will not only provide parents with much needed items, but also provide them with information and knowledge as agencies will be on hand to provide parent resources during the Community Baby shower itself. We believe that this event will help provide parents with the tools to maintain a healthy pregnancy, as well as raise healthy children. To register to participate in the Community Baby Shower please visit nwivolunteer.org websites of Porter and Lake County.

Please join us in making a difference in the life of a family!
