Community Healthcare System welcomes practitioners to Care Network of Physicians

Community Healthcare System recently welcomed several practitioners to the Community Care Network, Inc. (CCNI) team of physicians. Among the specialties these physicians represent are family medicine, gastroenterology, genetic counseling and noninvasive cardiology. The CCNI group of physicians are closely affiliated with Community Healthcare System’s hospitals: Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart and specialty hospital, Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center in Crown Point.

Board-certified Family Medicine practitioner Thomas Wilkins, DO, is on staff at Community Hospital and St. Catherine Hospital. He completed his residency at Loyola University Medical Center’s MacNeal Hospital. He received his medical degree from Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine. He accepts new patients. St. Mary Medical Center welcomes Community Care Network Gastroenterologist Alaa Atieh, DO, to their staff. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Riverside Medical Center and an internal medicine residency where he was chief resident at Riverside Medical Center. He also completed his internship at Rockford Memorial Hospital. He received his medical degree in osteopathic medicine from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Medical Geneticist Courtney Schuiteman, MS, will serve as a counselor with the Cancer Genetics Risk program at the hospitals of Community Healthcare System. As part of the Community Care Network, Inc., she will be responsible for genetic counseling and risk assessment at the Women’s Diagnostic Center of Community Hospital, Munster. A graduate of Indiana State University with a master’s degree in genetics counseling, Schuiteman completed an internship at St. Joseph Health in Mishawaka. Joining the Community Care Network heart team at Community Hospital is noninvasive cardiologist Sean Swearingen, MD. He completed his fellowship at Rush University Medical Center.
