CompressAir to implement custom installation trailer for client convenience

A new trailer with leading-edge design is enabling CompressAir - a distributor of compressed air systems based in La Porte - to provide efficient installation service to clients.

Originally designed and implemented in 2018 by Applied System Technologies (AST), which provides aluminum piping systems to companies like Compress Air for installation of their compressed air systems, the trailer program began on the West Coast as a way to help companies establish themselves as install distributors.

"We found that the trailer would be a great tool and asset for companies like CompressAir as they performed installs," said Kevin Melisz, AST regional director for the north. "It also provides a rolling billboard, which is great marketing not only for them but for our product."

Melisz said after trying the trailer with a few clients, AST quickly realized their established distributors would also like to take advantage of a mobile installation trailer. With a large stock order, the distributor receives a beautifully wrapped, enclosed trailer for them to do installs.  The trailer also serves as a place to keep inventory.

During 2019, AST has seen around two dozen customers take advantage of the trailer program across the U.S., including one to Canada and Mexico.

Tyler Crowl, CompressAir sales manager, said CompressAir opted to take advantage of the AST promotion and expects to receive the trailer soon.

"We will upfit the trailer with Applied System’s provided racks, storage, and workbench and be able to utilize the trailer for material storage while freeing up valuable shop space," Crowl said. "We will be able to take the outfitted trailer on our pipe installs and have a fully-stocked warehouse on wheels to be more efficient on completing jobs."

Per AST's program, the 20-foot trailer will be registered to CompressAir. This is not a loaner program. After AST receives a qualifying supply order, they work with the distributor to design the trailer from the inside out, including graphics and logos for the outside of the vehicle. This requires about a four-week or more lead time.

Melisz said clients have the opportunity to upgrade to the option that includes racks, shelving, toolbox, and workbench already outfitted in the trailer. Some customers prefer to do this themselves and get the empty trailer, while others prefer to have it already outfitted.

Once the trailer is complete, it is the responsibility of the customer to get the trailer from AST in Charlotte, or AST can provide quotes from a company to deliver the trailer.

"We have noticed many distributors are using it as a background for company pictures for social media and promotional efforts. Overall the program has been a success," Melisz said.
