Conference-most six Valpo teams earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards

Six Valparaiso University athletic programs have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for outstanding academic performance, as announced by the NCAA this week. Valpo student-athletes emerged as champions in the classroom as the department boasted the most NCAA Public Recognition Awards in the Missouri Valley Conference.

The men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s golf, women’s tennis and men’s track & field programs were all honored for their high achievement in the classroom this year. The women’s cross country team has garnered the recognition each of the last nine seasons, while women’s golf and women’s tennis have received the award the last six years and men’s golf has done so five years running.

The award is presented to teams that have an NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate in the top 10 percent of all teams in their respective sport. The calculation of APR tracks the academic progress of each student-athlete and includes eligibility, retention and graduation.
