Continual education takes precedence at Cavanaugh and Nondforf Orthodontics

Taking the Ken Blanchard approach that “None of is as smart as all of us,” Dr. Robert Cavanaugh and Dr. Matthew Nondorf of Cavanaugh and Nondorf Orthodontics founded the Dental Excellence in Northwest Indiana Study Club. This club was created to allow local dental professionals to gather and learn from each other.

For more than five years now, Cavanaugh and Nondorf have been hosting their quarterly seminars for local hygienists, oral surgeons, and other various dental professionals. These seminars are a benefit for all --especially the patients. Gathering these professionals together is a great way to ensure that patients are receiving the best oral health care possible.

“The community and our patients benefit from the expertise of all the dental professionals working in a synergistic manner,” said Nondorf. “We can develop a scientific consensus as to the best way to treat particular cases and we will often discuss particularly complex cases that require a multidisciplinary approach. Everyone brings their own expertise whether it is the oral surgeon, the orthodontist, the general dentist, or the endodontist.”

Cavanaugh and Nondorf usually prepare the lectures for attendees, but, at times, will have talks from area oral surgeons or endodontists. The goal is always to educate each other, learn, and build relationships within the dental community.

“We want to develop collegiality within the dental community, champion evidence based dentistry, and learn the latest techniques and tips from other dental professionals,” said Nondorf. “Staying connected with our colleagues and staying informed on different topics is important.”

Consistent learning is essential for success in any field. As educational leaders in the community, Cavanaugh and Nondorf Orthodontics pass on the knowledge and expertise they attain right to their patients.

The study group is a chance for dental professionals to mingle and build stronger working relationships with each other.

“I like gaining knowledge and ideas from our dental colleagues. Hanging out with an awesome group of people who share similar experiences and interests is also a positive,” said Nondorf.
