Create a Better Community – Nominate Volunteers for Local Boy Scout Needs

Boy-Scouts-Prepared-for-LifeIt takes a village to raise a child.” This ancient proverb rings true throughout our communities and our world. It starts with you. Building a good neighborhood can start when you decide to be a good neighbor. Building our community starts with you and can happen right now, right where you are. Make a decision to volunteer, serve a meal, clean up trash, or mentor a child. Life is easier to weather and good kids are easier to develop when you are part of a good neighborhood and stable, helpful community.

Do you know someone who is up to the challenge of joining the ‘village’ of Boy Scouts to build a better community? Is it you who can live up to being a good neighbor? If so, please submit your nominations to the District Nominating Committee. The committee will maintain your anonymity if you desire, and you won’t be asked to contact the nominee unless you desire to help in the process.

The Boy Scouts of America has plenty of opportunities to volunteer right where you are, and is accepting nominations for various volunteer positions on the Dunes Moraine District Committee which serves all of Porter County, minus Portage Township.

The District Committee is an extension of the local Council’s Executive Board and exists to serve the leadership needs of the District in areas of fundraising, community relations, recruiting youth and adults, maintaining quality Scouting programs, and providing support resources and training to other volunteers.

Scouting experience is not required, just a desire to serve your community through Scouting. Service commitments are generally for a one-year term beginning in April. The following information would be helpful, but do not hesitate to respond because you do not know all the data. A suggestion with the information you have is far more valuable than no suggestion at all.

  • Your name and contact information (your anonymity will be maintained, but you may be contacted to get further information concerning the individuals you nominate)
  • Name of the individual you recommend
  • Contact data (home and business address, phone #'s and email - all that is known)
  • Family data (any children past or current Scouts?) (not a requirement for volunteering)
  • Scouting background, if any
  • Education and career history
  • Current employer and position
  • History of service to other youth, volunteer or philanthropic organizations
  • Potential role the individual could play or strong skills that would be useful
  • Name(s) of individuals currently volunteering in Scouting role who could be of assistance in approaching the recommended person, if known

All recommendations will be seriously and honestly considered. Timing is important! Please submit nominations as soon as possible, preferably before February 15th, 2013. Email nominations to Jeff Clymer of Clymer Law Offices at jclymer@netnitco.net or Erika Dutcher of the Boy Scouts of America at erika.dutcher@scouting.org or phone to 219-608-1470.
