Crimson Wave Blanked By Sixth Ranked Wolves

Crimson-Wave-Blanked-By-Sixth-Ranked-WolvesFacing the first nationally ranked competition of the year, the Calumet College of St. Joseph men's volleyball team knew that they had to bring everything they had. They did, but it still wasn't enough. The sixth ranked Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University used their size and numbers to take home the CCAC matchup 3-0 (16-25, 19-25, 17-25) Wednesday night at the Rittenmeyer Center.

Set one was all Cardinal Stritch (3-2, 3-1 CCAC), as they ran up the score to 11-5 before the first called CCSJ (0-5, 0-3 CCAC) timeout. Even after regrouping, the Wave still wasn't able to catch up to the Wolves. Calumet committed six errors and hit -.040 on their way to a 25-16 loss. The Wave came out with revenge on their mind in set two. Although they only hit .033 and made seven errors, they led all the way until the score was 15 all. However, the Wolves took back control, earning the next 12 of 16 points for the 25-19 set two win. The Crimson and Gray played their best set in the third with a .250 hitting percentage and 12 kills, but CSU one upped them in both categories. Cardinal Stritch hit .481, with 15 kills and only two errors to sweep the match. They took the final frame 25-17, and the game 3-0.

Liam Fagan (SR/Crete, Ill.) was one dig short of the game high, ending up with eight total. Tim Williams (SR/Aurora, Ill.) once again led the team with nine kills, as did Roberto Morales (FR/Calumet City, Ill.) with 21 assists. Jose Gonzalez (SR/Calumet City, Ill.) tallied two block assists, part of the teams six in the game.

The Wave will take the next week to regroup, not hitting the court again until a February 13th matchup at Saint Xavier University. First serve from Chicago is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
