Crimson Wave Drop Two More To IU-Kokomo

Crimson-Wave-Drop-Two-More-To-IU-KokomoHaving just played a doubleheader against IU-Kokomo this past Thursday, the Crimson Wave headed back down state to take on the Cougars for two more. Unfortunately, the results were no better, as the Indiana University satellite school swept the Crimson and Gray once again, 9-2 and 14-1, on Sunday afternoon at Kokomo Municipal Stadium.

RESULTS
Game One: IUK 9, CCSJ 2
Winning Pitcher: Renton Pool
Losing Pitcher: Cody Bucsko (FR/Whiting, Ind.)

Game Two: IUK 14, CCSJ 1
Winning Pitcher: Ryan Beck
Losing Pitcher: Ryan Slavey (JR/Lake Station, Ind.)

HOW IT HAPPENED
In game one, CCSJ (0-6, 0-0 CCAC) drew first blood thanks to a Matthew Jackson (SR/Apex, N.C.) two run shot in the opening frame. That would be the first and last time the Wave would find the scoreboard, as IUK (7-4, 0-0 RSC) took back the lead with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first, and added five more throughout the shortened seven inning game.

In the second game of the double header, the Wave drew even with the Cougars at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning to keep the ballgame close in the final few innings. Then the floodgates opened. IUK would go on to score six runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth to give them a commanding lead. The Wave were unable to get the deficit down below ten in their half of the seventh, causing the mercy rule to end the game earlier than desired.

STAT OF THE GAME
IU-Kokomo battered the pitchers that the Wave sent to the bump, racking up 27 hits in the 12 innings that they got to the plate. CCSJ wasn't able to cause that same amount of damage, only tallying 12 hits throughout their 14 total innings of at bats.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Mathew Jackson produced two thirds of the Crimson and Gray's offense on the evening thanks to the previously mentioned two run homer to open up game one. He also saw 0.2 innings on the rubber late in game two.

WHO'S ON DECK?
The Wave will now embark on their annual spring trip, one that sees them heading to Texas and Oklahoma. Randall University will be their first opponent, taking them on for back to back doubleheaders on March 2nd and 3rd.
