The Cubs have brought up Jeff Samardzija to the Major League roster as part of the September call-ups, when the major league rosters expand from 25 to 40.
While it is unknown if Samardzija will become a full-time starter or reliever when he returns to the pitching staff, it is expected that he will make at least one more start. Samardzija was 6-6 in 18 appearances (17 starts) at AAA Iowa this year with a 4.35 ERA. He had several good starts as of late, but struggled in his last outing.
In the majors this season, Samardzija went 1-2 with a 7.81 ERA through 17 appearances (1 start). Because he last started on Monday, Samardzija is not expected to start until the weekend series against Cincinnati.
