Daniel McCormick, M.D., begins a new role as vice president of medical affairs for Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point, effective March 1.
His previous position, since 2011, was as president of Franciscan Physician Network of Illinois, which is affiliated with Franciscan St. James Health-Chicago Heights and Olympia Fields.
Dr. McCormick, a nephrology specialist, has been in practice since 1991.
Among his new duties will be overall responsibility for the medical staff and serving as a liaison between physicians and senior management; implementing programs that will benefit medical staff, the hospital and patients; coordinating patient care review and monitoring physician performance. He also will work with executive staff members to develop hospital goals and participate in community service groups.
Hospital president David Ruskowski calls Dr. McCormick “an energetic, creative and dynamic leader, as well as a caring physician, known for providing high-quality services.”
“He also has a track record of performance, entrepreneurial and innovation successes,” Ruskowski says. “He is known for moving things forward and getting them done expeditiously.”
Dr. McCormick comes from a medical family; his father is a cardiologist, his mother, a nurse.
“Nephrology gave me the opportunity to care for many patients, many of whom are the most ill. I grew to be very comfortable and familiar with the hospital environment. This new position provides me the opportunity to re-engage in the hospital side of practice and administration, which is a very exciting opportunity,” he says.
“Health care systems are being asked to meet new challenges and reconsider the way we do things. The day has come and we must meet the demands. I hope to work with the medical staff, nursing staff, and all employees at St Anthony to bring us into this ‘new day’ with great success in order to continue the mission of the Sisters of St Francis of Perpetual Adoration in the community.”
