Dedication Ceremony Marks Official Opening of Five Points Roundabout

Valparaiso-Vibrant-VisionaryThe new roundabout at the five points intersection of Calumet Avenue, Vale Park Road and Roosevelt Road is open for business. Mayor Jon Costas, along with the City of Valparaiso’s Redevelopment Commission and the Indianapolis-based engineering consulting firm American Structurepoint, is celebrating the completion of this 3-phase project by hosting a dedication ceremony, complete with the ceremonial lighting of the tree that sits in the middle of the new roundabout.

We have been anxiously awaiting the completion of the city’s newest and biggest roundabout,” said Mayor Jon Costas. “We can all be more confident in this efficient new traffic circle as it promises to move traffic more quickly and more safely than the 5-way intersection it replaces.

In 2012, the City had plans approved to convert the 5-leg signalized intersection into a 5-point roundabout to increase traffic flow and capacity. It provides a safer intersection for the community by reducing crashes and their severity. It also minimizes maintenance costs for the city in the future.
