Luwpas denise FAAmbassadorDenise Luwpas, a patient access representative who has served with the hospital 14 months, is Franciscan Health Michigan City’s March Ambassador of the Month.

The award has been presented by the hospital’s Social and Recognition Committee since 1988 and recognizes employees who exhibit the mission and values of Franciscan Alliance, which include compassion for those in need, respect for life and the dignity of mankind, wellness and prevention of illness, restoration to health and acceptance of death as the final step toward wholeness. Recipients also have demonstrated courtesy, the proper attitude and enthusiasm for their work.

Luwpas, who resides in LaPorte with her husband, Mike (they have two grown sons), was nominated for the award by coworker, who called her patient care and compassion “second to none.”

Added the fellow employee, “Denise is a great team player and willing to help out wherever and whenever needed.”

Asked how she felt about receiving the honor, Luwpas said she was surprised, honored, humbled and blessed.

“I greatly appreciate receiving the honor,” she said, “I take pride in my job and do my best to make our patients feel welcomed, comforted and special.”

Hobbies include reading, bowling, puzzle books and motorcycle riding with her husband. They belong to Combat Veteran Motorcycle Association and “do all we can to help our veterans.”

In recognition of the honor, Luwpas, as are all Ambassador recipients, was honored with a special billboard display for the month, a privileged parking spot, an Ambassador badge holder, a photo on the Ambassador of the Month wall that displays the previous 12 months’ winners, and $150.
