District Offers Programs, Information to Mark America Recycles Day 2017

District-Offers-Programs-Information-to-Mark-America-Recycles-Day-2017America Recycles Day is Nov. 15. In order celebrate, Porter County Recycling & Waste Reduction is offering a few opportunities where residents can increase their recycling knowledge.

During the week of Nov. 13 through 17, Porter County Recycling & Waste Reduction staff and Master Recyclers will work an information table in the lobby of the Porter County Government Administration Center, 155 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso, so residents and visitors can get information and ask questions about recycling and waste reduction in Porter County.

In addition, district staff will provide three free programs about recycling at the Valparaiso Public Library, 103 Jefferson St. All events will take place in Meeting Room A of the library, located at 103 Jefferson St. The program dates and times include: Monday, Nov. 6, 2 p.m.; Wednesday, Nov. 8, 1 p.m.; and Tuesday, Nov. 28, 10 a.m.

“Unfortunately, there is so much misinformation out there about what can be recycled here in Northwest Indiana,” said Donna Stuckert, public education coordinator. “Almost everything can be recycled, but only certain items can be recycled at the curb, and there are reasons for that. That’s where the confusion lies.”

The district recently held a billboard contest with the middle schools in Porter County and chose three pieces of art that are currently being featured in high impact areas throughout November.

“We hope everyone who sees the colorful artwork will realize they can make a difference by simply recycling,” said Stuckert.
