On Saturday April 18th, the Public Education Foundation of Valparaiso hosted it's annual Dollars for Scholars 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Everyone had a great time, and the foundation was able to raise quite a bit of money for a good cause.
During the tournament, the Dollars for Scholars was able to raffle off a Legends of the Chicago White Sox bat signed by former legends that played for the White Sox, including Ron Kittle, Harold Baines, and Bobby Thigpen. The winner of the raffle was longtime Valpo resident Jeff Butterfield.
ValpoLife has created galleries of the event in the ValpoLife Photos section of the site. All proceeds from the purchase of the photos will directly benefit the Dollars for Scholars program. The video team is also producing slide-show videos about the event that you will see of the girls' tournament, the boys' tournament, and the adult tournament. The event was able to raise $1600 in sponsorships, $6115 in registration fees and $835 from the raffle for a total of $8550. The expenses for brochures, officials and trophies totaled $1882.35, so the event was able to raise a net total of $6667.65. The event was sponsored by Blythe's Sports Shop, Town & Country Market, Valparaiso Grill & Chill Dairy Queen, Urschel Labs, Vale Park Animal Hospital, Valparaiso Family Dentistry, Cavanaugh Orthodontics, and ValpoLife.com.
