Donations Needed for Porter County Salvation Army Christmas Food Assistance

We are seeking people to help us with monetary donations to purchase Food Gift Certificates for our Christmas Assistance Program which helps over 500 families, seniors and singles with a Christmas Day meal. Individual donors, groups and organizations can help us purchase food gift certificates from Wiseway and Al's Grocery Stores by donating funds. The funds can be used to allow families to choose a Christmas meal for themselves at local grocery stores this 2009 Christmas Season. [ Tobacco, alcohol and lottery tickets are not allowed as a purchase on all the food tags we distribute during Christmas and throughout the year]. "We want to be sensitive to the needs of the people we are serving that may have sugar or other concerns when purchasing food. Some are not able to eat what's in the traditional Christmas Food 'basket' because of health or allergic restrictions." states Major Jon Welch...

"Thank you to the many who have already donated food certificates and food items at our Angel Trees these past few weeks. The Salvation Army can purchase in bulk from Wiseway and Al's food certificates with a discount which will save us and the donor money."
