The newly opened pediatric dental practice of Dr. Carisse Corns, at 1111 Cumberland Crossing Drive, Valparaiso, is equipped with state-of-the-art dental equipment including a digital X-ray system which reduces radiation exposure by more than 50%, and operates on a completely paperless system.
Upon entering the bright, cheerful, yet comforting lobby of Growing Smiles, the appearance would cause one to think they had entered a children's paradise! Complete with a prize vending machine, TV's in the ceilings of the dental treatment areas, video games, and an open, airy dental area where patients are seated during cleaning appointments, this fun-filled atmosphere makes adults wish they were kids again! "It was a dream of mine to open my own office and it is a blessing to have realized this dream and be able to do what I love and am passionate about each and every day." said Dr. Corns.
Realizing that children may sometimes be fearful of the dentist, the practice has an "open-door" policy which allows Mom or Dad to accompany the child to the treatment area to help ease fears of the patient during the visit. Along with preventative care, the office also offers the services of fillings, crowns, tooth extractions, and 24 hour emergency care. For patients who require treatment and have a dental phobia, sedation dentistry options including nitrous oxide, oral sedation and general anesthesia, are available. Complimentary "peek-a-boo" visits are offered to children 24 months and younger as a way of introducing young children to the office, to help instill healthy dental habits, and to provide parents with oral hygienic information in the hopes of preventing cavities and fostering a lifetime of healthy smiles.
A native of Southern California, Dr. Corns, DDS and Board Certified Pediatric Dentist, received her undergraduate studies, Doctor of Dental Surgery, and Pediatric Dentistry degrees from the University of Southern California. During dental school, she was actively involved in outreach programs extended towards children. It was through these outreach programs that she realized her passion for working with children and educating them about oral health.
Jessica Hathaway, Lead Dental Assistant, is thrilled to be in this new environment and shares that Dr. Corns is a caring and compassionate doctor who does a really good job relating to the children.
During the open house, the welcoming, Dr. Corns and her hospitable staff were on hand to answer questions and provide tours of the beautiful, new facility.
