Giving Back to Students
Symphony of Chesterton decided to give back to the Duneland School students by collecting school supplies. "It was our way of saying thank you for all their performances, talents and time. It always gives so much joy to our residents," said Angela Boland, Symphony of Chesterton director of clinical business development. Boland, left, along with Sheila Mullins, director of admissions, right, presented Duneland Schools Superintendent Dr. Ginger Bolinger, center, with the school supplies collected from their residents and staff at Symphony, a resort-style senior and assisted living facility located in Chesterton.

The Duneland School Board recently honored three Duneland School Corporation (DSC) Administration Center staff members for completing certification courses for the Indiana Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) certification program.

Mary Jo Brust, DSC business manager, has completed the required courses for her certification designation as Chief Business Officer, which requires 92 hours of instruction.

Elizabeth Howard, DSC benefits coordinator, has completed two certifications tracks. Her certification designations are Business Office Specialist, which required 58 hours of instruction; and Human Resources Specialist, which required 71 hours of instruction.

Lynn Kwilasz, assistant superintendent of business/CFO has completed the required courses for her certification designation as Human Resources Specialist, which required 71 hours of instruction. She also has completed the required courses for her renewal of her certification designation as Chief Business Officer requiring 92 hours of instruction.

All of these certifications acknowledge the experience and knowledge that each of these staff leaders has regarding the school business management arena.

IASBO is a professional organization that promotes the school business management profession. Individuals involved in the Association are responsible for the following activities in Indiana’s public schools regarding finance, accounting, budgeting, auditing, purchasing, maintenance and operations, human resources, facility planning, risk management, cash management, food nutrition, technology, and transportation.

The Duneland School Corporation announced their partnership with the Duneland Boys and Girls Club in Chesterton at last evening’s school board meeting. This partnership will help meet the needs of Duneland parents and their children that utilize the Club after school. A school bus that would have been traded as part of the school corporation’s bus replacement plan will now be donated to the Duneland Boys and Girls Club so that they can provide transportation of students from school to the Club. The school corporation will also provide training for their school bus driver and assist with bus maintenance.
