Early Childhood Parenting Class to Support Valpo Initiative

Positive-ParentsThe community is invited to attend an Early Childhood Parenting class as part of Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas’ Substance Abuse Prevention Initiative. The 6-week class will be held at the Valparaiso YMCA on Saturdays, beginning Sept. 17. The course, entitled "Early Childhood Parenting Made Fun" was designed by the Love and Logic Institute® and includes topics such as how to handle disruptions during mealtimes, how to get children to sleep in their own bed, and how to end temper tantrums. The class gives specific answers and actions for some of the more difficult moments in parenting.

Strengthening parent-child relationships is a great way to prevent problems with behavior and addictions before they begin,” said Costas. Parents who have “graduated” from the program from prior sessions report “More patience, less arguing,” “I don’t lose my temper as often,” and “Loving discipline has set an appropriate order to our family dynamic.”

Valparaiso-Vibrant-VisionaryCost for the parenting class is $15 for the workbook, which participants will keep. Space is limited, so registration is required. You may register online, using Paypal, at www.positiveparentsnwi.com and there is no need to pay for a workbook if you’ve purchased one previously. ChildWatch is available and is free for YMCA members. For further information, contact Erin Evans, independent facilitator for the class, at 219-309-4912 or Garner Tullis at 219-462-2211.
