Energy Infrastructure Upgrades Continue throughout Northern Indiana

rot1On May 25, 2016, NIPSCO announced plans to begin work on installing a new natural gas line through the Towns of Crown Point, Schererville and Merrillville. This project is just one of the existing and future investments planned as part of the company’s long-term effort to modernize the gas and electric infrastructure across its entire service area.

Beginning in June, NIPSCO will start construction to install 4.1 miles of an underground natural gas transmission line. Construction will begin on Chase Street to Burr Street along 91st Avenue and continue south along NIPSCO’s electric corridors to SR 231. Construction is expected to run through September 2016.

Notifications have been sent to residents in the immediate area, and NIPSCO has been working closely with town officials to coordinate logistics.

The new natural gas line will provide safer and more reliable service to area residents and businesses in the future.

Environmental surveys for the project were completed to fully assess environmentally sensitive features within the proximity of the project. As with every project, NIPSCO's project team worked with the regulating agencies and local stakeholders to avoid, minimize and mitigate environmental impacts.

NIPSCO reminds customers who travel near construction areas to please exercise caution to ensure personal safety and the safety of construction crews working on this project.
