While the end of the summer season is coming up fast, there is still time to get out and enjoy all of the summer fun that the South Shore has to offer. Across the region you’ll find endless possibilities for great entertainment, dining and outdoor activities well-suited for the whole family!

Northwest Indiana is famous for our incredible Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Indiana Dunes State Park. With over 60 miles of trails and 15,000 acres of dunes, rivers, forests, oaks savannas, bogs, marshes, and prairies, the National Lakeshore and Dunes State Park are the perfect place for hiking, swimming, fishing, biking and picnicking.

Summer along the South Shore is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy all that nature has to offer here in the region. There’s lot to do this time of year from bird watching along the dunes, at county parks, and nature preserves, to canoe and kayakers taking advantage of the region’s adventurous water trails. Whether it’s a quick trip or a day-long adventure, there are hundreds of miles of blueways ready to be experienced.

Also for the outdoors-lover, the South Shore is home to great, family-fun campgrounds that offer an enticing balance of outdoor living and accommodations for those wanting to head outdoors, and enjoy an evening under the stars, in their RV, or in a cabin rental.

If you’re looking to beat the heat, take a trip to Deep River Waterpark or Whiting’s Whihala Beach where the new Whoa Zone, Whiting latest attraction, is non-stop entertainment in the form of a one-acre floating water park! From the Whoa Zone’s slides, monkey bars, bridges, towers and jumping platforms, young and old will enjoy this attraction and stay cool this summer.

The South Shore boasts many beautiful, first-rate golf courses and, whether you’re a beginner or a professional, these challenging courses will test your skills. Also, for the sports lover, the Gary SouthShore Railcats offer great minor league baseball right here along the South Shore. From the amazing fireworks on Fridays to the family and kid-friendly environment that the U.S. Steel Yard has to offer the whole family, this is the perfect way to spend a summer day!
