Families Getting Active Together!

Scooters were scooting, diving boards were bouncing and balls were flying at VHS for Memorial Elementary's PE Fun Night as part of their TV Turn-Off effort in encouraging kids to get active. Scott Sienkowski, the Memorial Elementary PE teacher put together the activities in the field house such as volleyball and basketball as well as having lifeguards in the pool area.

"It's a nice evening for everybody," he said, with kids running around him high-fiving each other - their parents trying to keep up with their energetic kids.

Lynette Green, the president of the PTO said, "Memorial Elementary has been celebrating TV Turn-Off for longer than I can remember. This PTO has always sponsored several activities during the week to encourage kids to be active, instead of watching TV."

They started off the week at Barnes and Nobles with storytelling, scavenger hunts as well as fundraising for the school, and their ending it tomorrow with a mind-bender trivia contest. Friday morning, the students bring a log in to see who watched no television, and those who adhered to the rules receive a prize.

It was a great event for both the parents and the kids, getting to spend time with their families and getting away from the television for a few hours.
