For the fifth year, the community of Valparaiso will gather to celebrate at The Mayor’s Charity Ball, to be held on Friday, September 18 from 6-11 p.m. in an elegant tent directly behind City Hall.
Reservations are being taken now to join Mayor Jon Costas and the citizens of Valparaiso for an enjoyable evening celebrating the community and the non-profit organizations which are helped annually by this event. This year’s charities include Boys and Girls Clubs of Porter County, Frontline Foundations (a substance abuse recovery support program for young men and women ages 18-25), Nexus (a mentoring program connecting youth with opportunities for grades 8-12), and Porter County Aging and Community Services. Each charity will have time during the evening to speak about its purpose and to address how the additional funding from this event will benefit their efforts.
This semi-formal evening will feature City Hall as the backdrop and a beautifully canopied and tented area for the entire dining, dancing and Bistro Bar ensuring the comfort and enjoyment of those attending. Dinner will feature a menu of global tastes by Pikk’s and The Jeff Brown Orchestra will entertain throughout the evening.
Last year $40,000 was distributed among three different charities. 100% of the proceeds are and will again be distributed. 412 people attended the sold-out event in 2008.
Though the focus is always on the charities at the annual Ball, this year we will also take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate Valparaiso’s recent “2009 Community of the Year” designation by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. “Part of this award belongs to our community and to all of the citizens who work each day to make Valparaiso a special place to call home”, noted Costas. “And it is the support of this Charity Ball by our residents and businesses - helping our local charities - that we also celebrate. Their commitment to insure our community’s success is one of the many reasons we take pride in our great hometown.”
Tickets are $125 per person. Reservations may be made by contacting Lori Good at 548-4822.
