Franciscan-St-Anthony-Health-Michigan-City-Seeing-the-Light-in-the-Lung-Cancer-FightLung cancer survivor Kathy Flavin-Chance, of Michigan City, participates in a Shine A Light on Lung Cancer Vigil Nov. 5 at the Woodland Cancer Care Center in Michigan City. The program, initiated by the Lung Cancer Alliance, was among 300 that took place nationwide on that day to celebrate those who have survived and to encourage those who still are battling, the disease. Flavin-Chance, a former 40-year smoker, who addressed the packed meeting earlier, told of how she battled the illness after first being shocked by the diagnosis, which took place during a lung cancer screening program offered by Franciscan St. Anthony Health - Michigan City.

She has been cancer free for about four months. Other speakers included Aundrea Siebert, Woodland director; and Samuel West, MD; who discussed the latest lung cancer treatments. Franciscan St. Anthony chaplain Lauren Mache lead the group in prayer. The center is under the auspices of the hospital.
