If you are looking for a fun change of pace for your Wednesday evenings, Kelsey’s Steakhouse is the place for you. For the remainder of October, Kelsey’s can be your Wednesday night routine from 6-8 for free wine tastings.
With a new wine menu, Kelsey’s wants to give the community a chance to see what they could expect from dining in. Guests are able to come in and taste wines each Wednesday. The variety of wines will rotate throughout the month, allowing guests to see the full menu by the end of October.
“We just got a brand new wine list a few months ago,” Kelsey's Manager Michelle Prosser said. “These wine tastings will give everyone an opportunity to try the wines. They can taste them for free without having to buy a glass. These nights are educational, as well as a chance to try all of the wine. Wine is such a popular pastime right now. A lot of people have questions about wine or they want to try new wine. This gives everyone a chance to do it.”
Whether you are a wine connoisseur or an occasional drinker, enjoy red wine or white, Kelsey’s has plenty of options.
“We have Italian wines, some from California, different styles of wine that aren’t typically on a wine menu in Northwest Indiana,” said Nate Swetalla of Southern Glazer’s. “There are different varietals of wine that people aren’t used to. It’s great for the area to get people thinking differently about wine.”
Swetalla stressed the importance of trying new wines without apprehension.
“If you don’t like what you try, there are many other options. Don’t be afraid to try new things.”
This Wednesday evening offered many unique options including Ferrari-Carano Siena, Valpolicella DOC Classico Superiore and Swetalla’s suggestion: the Mazzei Philip.
“The wine I would recommend from Kelsey’s new menu is the Mazzei Philip,” said Swetalla. “It’s 100% carbonet from Tuscany. It spends two years in oak barrels. It has a well-balanced palate that goes very well with a lot of the meats they have here.”
If you want to dine in with your family and enjoy tastings with the adults, Kelsey’s is ready to serve you. If you are just passing through like business associate Jacob Cross, wine tastings are a great way to spend a few hours.
“I travel a lot. I just got lucky and came to the right place tonight,” said Cross. “Everytime I come into Valpo, I stop here. I think the restaurant is phenomenal and the wait staff is really nice. There were a lot of wines that I liked tonight. I’m not a white wine person, but I tried a few and they were pretty decent. Tonight is a lot of fun and it’s good conversation with the people that show up.”
