Friends support Hospice of the Calumet Area Cherishing Life efforts

On Thursday, Feb. 23, the Friends of Hospice hosted their annual luncheon at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts. Friends, the fundraising auxiliary of Hospice of the Calumet Area, presented a check for $100,000 to support their Cherishing Life efforts.

Hospice of the Calumet Area CEO Adrianne May and Development Director Joan McInerney addressed the group of volunteers and introduced them to the organization’s newest initiative. HCA is currently fundraising for their Honoring Legacies Capital Campaign: 25 years of William J. Riley Memorial Residence.

McInerney recalled the first time she experienced the inpatient facility as a volunteer singing Christmas Carols to patients and families four years ago.

“When Bill, my fiancé, and I walked in and saw this warm, home-like environment, we looked at each other and said what a gift this is to our community,” said McInerney. “This past year, I have had several close friends and family that needed care at [William J. Riley Memorial Residence]. Families just need a safe, peaceful place for their loved ones to be compassionately cared for with dignity.”

Besides a new roof, windows, lighting and other cosmetics, the William J. Riley Memorial Residence will also have new areas including fragrance, cutting and pollination gardens and also a labyrinth. Also installed will be a Veterans Memorial as every 1 in 4 patients served in the military.

“We are grateful to those who have already supported the campaign with their generous contributions, and took advantage of a dollar-for-dollar match from the George and Harriet Korellis Roofing Donor Fund and another anonymous family foundation,” said Adrianne May, Hospice of the Calumet Area CEO. “These donors are matching the first $250,000 in contributions.”

The Capital Campaign matching donations will run until May 1. To make a donation or to find out more information visit HospiceCalumet.org/capitalcampaign or call 219.922.2732.
