Funding Random Drug Testing in the Schools

Supers-with-checkThe Porter County Substance Abuse Council announced that they are providing matching grant dollars, up to $15,000 total, for all Porter County school corporations. These dollars are available for schools with random drug testing policies in place. Council Chair Paula Dranger noted the need for efforts within the community to work together to fight substance abuse. Superintendent Gardin, East Porter Schools, said that their schools randomly test grades 7-12 and that the additional dollars will help his funding. Superintendent Schmidt, Porter Township Schools, stated that the program will help in her schools as well.

Council members from the Health Department, Valparaiso Police Department and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County were in attendance at the conference.
