From the start, Kim Ramsey’s life and experiences have been centered around finding ways to better the lives of those around her. Since November of 2018, she has served as the Software & Training Consultant at General Insurance Services (GIS), and spends her days helping clients utilize technology to manage their business insurance needs.
Kim’s focus is on marketing risk management and employee benefits and HR software, as well as assisting clients with implementation and training to use the software.
“Helping our clients reduce risk and manage workplace safety means employees go home to their family at the end of the workday and businesses continue to create opportunities for our community.”
Prior to joining General Insurance Services, Kim worked for a local bank building relationships in the community. She also spent time working for the Economic Development Corporation of Michigan City and GLEDC (Greater La Porte Economic Development Corporation).
“I managed their business retention and expansion program,” Ramsey said. It was during that time that she really developed a better understanding of the community she was living and working in.
“My position gave me the opportunity to get out and meet with businesses, non-profit organizations and local leaders in La Porte County,” Ramsey said. “I was discovering what we could do to help the county grow and thrive.”
“Those experiences also gave me the opportunity to volunteer, which opened doors for me and essentially brought me to where I am today. Through community involvement and past work experience I built relationships with many of the people I work with today at GIS,” Ramsey said.
“It was an easy decision to join the team because I knew the culture and company values at GIS were aligned with my own values and what I was looking for in my professional life.”
“I really like the people I work with,” Ramsey said. “They are knowledgeable and know the industry. I’ve learned a lot already. I’m thankful for the opportunity to help our clients and make an impact on our community, it’s truly a team effort.”
Alongside helping clients, Ramsey is thankful for the volunteer culture at GIS.
“Our mission is to secure the future of the communities we serve,” Ramsey said. “That's not a saying. We truly believe in our company mission and support the community through opportunities like Blue Jean Fridays and Dollars for Doers,” she said.
Every Friday is Blue Jean Friday, team members wear jeans on Friday and make a $5 donation. GIS happily matches those donations and the funds are donated to local organizations.
“It’s a really awesome way for us to give back. The push for volunteering contributes to our culture and helps each of us follow our passion,” Ramsey said. “It’s motivated me throughout my career. It makes you feel good, just knowing that you’re helping a new organization every month. ”
Ramsey studied Human Resource Management and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Purdue University Northwest. She lives in New Buffalo with her family. In her free time, Ramsey serves as the chairperson for Tour De La Porte, a significant fundraiser to help support those living with cancer in La Porte County.
