GIS announces 3rd year being named one of the “Best Places to Work in Indiana”

Out of only 125 businesses in Indiana, General Insurance Services (GIS) is proud to announce their third year reigning as one of the best places to work in Indiana by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce under the small business category.

“We started participating in the ‘Best Places to Work in Indiana’ program about three years ago,” said Kara Moon, Marketing Coordinator at GIS. “We’ve been very fortunate to be named one of the best places to work in Indiana for each of those years. We are so excited.”

The program entails a series of questions that both the employer and employee team fill out. Questions range from, “What benefits are included?” to more personal questions such as “Do you feel like your input is valued?”, “Do you feel the benefits package is optimal for you?”, or “How do you feel in your every-day job?” The questions are then judged on a scale from 1-5. The Indiana Chamber of Commerce takes those two scores to designate businesses as the “Best Place to Work”.

“Work culture is a big thing for us,” Moon said. “We are working to create a high-performing and valued culture at GIS. It’s great to see the validation that we are doing the right things, and attracting the right people.”

Moon has been with GIS for the last three years and anticipates staying planted there.

“I tell people this all the time: I’ve finally found my home and see longevity with GIS. I truly enjoy that my input is valued,” Moon said. “I am not just a number, I am a valuable team member.”

Associate Nicole Van Duyn explains the “GIS WAY” and the family styled culture.

“The entire team at GIS inspires me by living the “GIS WAY”, which are 31 different reminders on how to be your best and to do what is right as a team and as an individual in both to our work and personal lives,” Duyn said. “From day one, you’re welcomed as a member of the GIS family and everyone, regardless of their title or department, treats you as such and is genuinely happy to help and excited for your future with the company.”

GIS is currently recruiting applicants and encourages those who are seeking a fulfilling position to apply.

“I hear from applicants all the time that our title as ‘Best Place to Work’ is what attracted them to apply to GIS,” Moon said. “That speaks a lot as to who we are as a company.”

“Through a blend of creating policies that protect families and businesses in the community and the service and volunteer work done by team members. GIS is committed to securing the future of the communities in which we live,” associate Michelle Snider said.

Centier Bank and Lakeside Wealth Management rank alongside GIS among the top tier of businesses that have been named “Best Places to Work” in Northwest Indiana.

“It’s nice to know there are many other businesses in the state getting this title,” Moon said.
