Giving Circle Awards $50,000 Women’s Fund Grant

porter-county-community-foundationImpact Porter County, a women’s giving circle associated with the Porter County Community Foundation, just awarded a $50,000 Women’s Fund grant to The Caring Place. Each year, Women’s Fund grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that address women’s issues and provide services or programs for women and children.

The generosity of the women of Porter County makes this grantmaking possible,” said Barb Young, President of the Porter County Community Foundation. Since the inception of the Women’s Fund, Impact has awarded over $290,000. “You ladies are awesome,” Young told Impact members at Wednesday’s celebration dinner. “The Women’s Fund Endowment is now over $370,000.”

The 2013 grant will help The Caring Place expand its Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program. “Right now we can’t keep up with the requests from the schools and other organizations,” said Mary Beth Schultz, Executive Director of The Caring Place. “This grant will enable us to expand by training counselors and volunteers such as college students. It will allow us to do more. There is such a critical need for this type of program.

The Caring Place was one of the three grant finalists vying this year for the Women’s Fund high-impact grant. The other finalists, Dayspring Women’s Center and Porter County PACT, each received a $2,500 grant.
