It’s the season for twinkling lights and soft, glowing warmth, and the Valpo Parks 4th Annual Luminary Walk on Thursday delivered.

Families and friends dressed themselves and sometimes even their furry pets for the ¾-mile luminary walk from the entrance of Keystone Commons to Windsor Park. The wind was brisk, but spirits were high, especially when Valparaiso University athletes handed out hot chocolate and cookies.

It was the second luminary walk that Kevin Nuppnau from Valpo Parks has worked, and he said he enjoys seeing the path used for its intended purpose.

“Helene Pierce, one of our staff members, came up with this idea herself when this pathway was built a few years ago. It was a way to get people out here to experience it. That kind of generated the idea and it’s been a good event ever since,” Nuppnau said.

As the pathway winds, it eventually spans Beauty Creek on a wooden bridge, giving strollers a glimpse at homes decorated with lights for the holidays as well. The night was perfect under the cold moon, the nickname for December’s full moon of 2019.

Champion sponsors of the event included Thorgren Industries and Mitch A. Peters Attorney at Law.
