On Tuesday, December 17th, the women of the Great Lake Sound Chorus gathered at Culver's in Valparaiso to spread some holiday cheer. Gathered around the Christmas tree the ladies, dressed all in sparkles with festive colors and a warm smiles on their faces, sang for those in the Culver’s dining room.

Nancy Flynn, member of the Great Lake Sound Chorus, is always humbled by the opportunity to preform for others.

“We are a chorus made up of women from Valparaiso, Portage, Wanatah, and all over the area,” Flynn said. “We all love singing for the community. We feel that our connection with the community is what makes us successful.”

The GLS chorus has been together for over 20 years and is part of a chapter belonging to Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide women vocalist association dedicated to improving the musical art form of Barbershop Harmony by instruction and performance. The Chorus believes strongly in the power of music and the influence it has on its audience. Patti Autenrieth, team leader of the GLS Chorus, explained her passion for singing.

“Music means so much to us and the only way that we really get a kick out of it is when see it expressed in other peoples faces. Seeing our audiences reaction is the greatest reward,” Autenrieth said.

Culver's was more than ecstatic when the ladies of Great Lake Sound Chorus contacted them inquiring about the opportunity to carol in the restaurant. Culver's is always looking for opportunities to make their restaurant the place to be and a place where the community to connect. Denny Dalka, Office Manager of the Valparaiso and Schererville Culver's locations, is always trying to reach out to the people of Valparaiso.

“Involving ourselves in the community is just something that we love to do. We just finished up with our angel tree benefiting Hilltop House where we provided 110 kids with gifts,” Dalka said.

The holiday carols created a warm and inviting atmosphere for those dining at Culver's and hopefully sparked holiday cheer in all of those who were able to stop by, relax and have a delicious dinner while enjoying the entertainment.
