One of the pillars of a vastly-improved Valpo defense received accolades as the Pioneer Football League announced its preseason awards Wednesday morning.
Senior Alex Green (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) was named to the preseason All-PFL linebackers corps following his 108-tackle campaign in 2014. In addition to claiming Academic All-PFL First Team honors last season, Green was subsequently elected to the All-PFL Second Team.
Green spearheaded a defensive unit in 2014 that realized a 156-point improvement upon the year prior. Furthermore, the Crusader defense surrendered 406.4 yards per game last fall compared to 506.5 in 2013. Green is in search of his third consecutive 100-tackle season in 2015.
Valpo opens its season on Thursday, September 3rd in Richmond, Kentucky. The Eastern Kentucky Colonels host the Crusaders in a 6:00 p.m. CT kickoff at Roy Kidd Stadium.
