Hoosier Burn Camp 5k Brought Out Many Supporters

The second annual Irish Pub 5K was the second of many years of fundraising still to come. The Hoosier Burn Camp was the beneficiary this year and many camp members will be pleased to know that nearly $3000 was raised that Saturday, May 11, 2013.

The Hoosier Burn Camp, located in Battle Ground, Indiana is a very local non-profit organization that hits close to home for many local fire fighters and their families. It offers a life-changing, unforgettable summer camp experience for young men and women who have experienced injuries from burns - at no cost to the families.

The race was held at The Irish Pub in North Judson and many came out to support the cause. Seven different volunteer fire departments arrived, with over 30 firefighters participating in the race. The firefighters showed support by donating time and money to the cause as well as completing the entire 5K in full fire gear.

One firefighter wore a SCBA (Self-contained breathing apparatus) mask and tank! Many community members also showed support by walking and running the 5k and donations were given by many local businesses to help raise funds. This was the second fundraiser for The Irish Pub, however much larger than the previous years. The total number of walkers and runners was around 80 and the amount of support was immeasurable.

As race director, I can say that it was a wonderful day. The local firefighters amaze me. They already do so many amazing things by donating their time to helping people, to come out and do this race was over the top. It was an amazing turn out this year and I hope for many more years of helping The Hoosier Burn Camp.
