The Izaak Walton League will be hosting a special walk and talk at Hawthorne Park in Porter on Saturday, September 15 at 3:30pm. Participants are welcome to come dressed as your favorite character from the Hunger Games books or movie and be ready to learn about the edible plants that Katniss, Prim and Gale needed for survival.
Plants, flowers and herbs that were highlighted or referenced in the series will be pointed out along the trails, other survival foods and healing-herb plants may also be shown to hikers as time and experience allow. Knowledge about the youth series book and the movie are not necessary in order to join in on the fun and activities.
Children should be accompanied by a guardian. Hikers may also join the Hoosier Hunger Games force by answering a few questions at the end of the hike regarding plants and topics discussed during the hike to receive an Izaak Walton League coloring book.
Bug spray, sunscreen, and a bottle of water are suggested “survival” items for the Hunger Games walk and talk. For more information, visit the event on Facebook.
