Housing Opportunities Receives a New Year Boost from the Downtown Dining Group and Grieger’s Motors

Thanks to Grieger's and the Valpo Dining Group, Housing Opportunities started off the New Year a little more full. The "LIVE RIGHT" Christmas can drive officially came to an end on Jaunary 4th, and the donations were sent off to Housing Opportunities.

The "LIVE RIGHT" Christmas can drive was an initiative of Grieger's Motors and the Valpo Dining Group. The restaurants and businesses that participated included Pikk's, Bistro 157, Silver Spoon, Paparazzi, Margaritas, Valley, Bon Femme, don Quijote, Jano Bicycles and Grieger's. Together these businesses were able to raise roughly $2,000 worth of food products for the pantry.

During this last leg of the project, Don Quijote owner Carlos Rivero invited members of the Valparaiso High School Wrestling Team to help with delivering and unloading the donations. “I like to work with the kids, to show them what it’s like to help the community,” shared Rivero.

Once assembled at Housing Opportunities, the whole group was greeted by Caren Furdeck, Housing Opportunities Events Coordinator, and Amanda Maynard, Housing Opportunities Resource Development Director. Furdeck thanked everyone for their generosity, emphasizing how their donation will help so many in need.

Donations are also welcomed at Housing Opportunities, including monetary donations. Most needed items include canned meats, pasta, canned stews/soup, canned vegetables, canned fruits, boxed skillet dinners, cereal and pancake mix, peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti sauce, toilet paper, laundry soap, and shampoo.
