Coming up this Saturday is the biggest event in Valparaiso: the 36th annual Popcorn Fest. As many know, the day is filled with lots of great things like races, food, people, and the always amazing parade.
One of Valparaiso's famous icons, Howie the Cow of Kelsey's Steakhouse, will be making an appearance this year in the parade to honor the memory of Kelsey's owner, Jack Hood.
"It was my mom's idea. She thought it would be nice to have all of the employees to walk with Howie in the parade and we're going to decorate him," General Manager Michelle Prosser said."I think it's great. Howie has been in Valpo for a really long time and people associate Howie with Valparaiso. Jack was well-loved and the Popcorn Fest is big for Valparaiso and Kelsey's so this is a great way to celebrate Jack's life."
"I think everybody associates Howie with Kelsey's. It's a great recognition piece," Portage General Manager Stacy Hood-Forney said. "Everyone talks about Howie and he fit right in with the size requirements for the parade float requirements. My dad has been great in the community and everyone liked him so he would be happy to see this. If it's community-related he'd love it."
And when you get hungry this Friday, come out to grab some lunch with Kelsey's from 11:30am-1pm at the Central Park Plaza. They will be serving prime rib, baked potatoes, rolls, and soda or water for $11. Cobbler is available for $2.
