Hummel Named A Finalist For Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award

hummel_vs_valpo2Purdue senior forward Robbie Hummel has been named one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, an honor that recognizes excellence both on and off the court.

To be eligible for the award, a student athlete must be a senior at a Division I institution and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Hummel leads Purdue with averages of 15.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game this season. The two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection and 2010 All-American currently ranks eighth in program history with 741 rebounds and 20th in scoring with 1,522 points.

The Valparaiso, Ind., native is the latest in a recent string of Boilermakers to be recognized as finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, as Chris Kramer and E’Twaun Moore each made the final 10 in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Four of the 10 finalists call the Big Ten Conference home, as Hummel is joined by William Buford of Ohio State, Draymond Green of Michigan State and Michigan’s Zack Novak.

Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to determine the winner of the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Fans are encouraged to vote at either seniorclassaward.com or facebook.com/lowesseniorclassaward. Fan votes will be combined with media and coaches’ votes to determine the winner.

Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the men’s Senior CLASS Award winner at the 2012 NCAA Men’s Final Four in New Orleans.
