Hummel Named Big Ten Co-Player Of The Week

purdue-logoAfter leading the Purdue men’s basketball team to a pair of wins last week, senior forward Robbie Hummel has been named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week.

Hummel averaged 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game last week in wins over Nebraska and No. 11/13 Michigan.

The award was the fourth of Hummel’s career, and his first of the season. He shared the award with Iowa’s Matt Gatens.

The Valparaiso, Ind., native poured in a season-high 29 points in the 83-65 win over Nebraska on Wednesday, knocking down 10-of-18 shots from the floor. Hummel also became the sixth Boilermaker to surpass the 800-career rebound mark with seven boards against NU.

Hummel capped the week with a 17-point, nine-rebound performance as the Boilers handed No. 11/13 Michigan its first home loss of the season, a 75-61 decision on Saturday night. He was 3-of-9 for the game before making his final three shots, including a pair of three-point field goals that stretched a four-point lead to a 10-point margin.

He also became just the fifth Purdue player to reach 200-career three-pointers in the win over the Wolverines.

The Boilermakers will host Penn State on Wednesday night, with tip slated for 6:30 p.m. ET. Senior Night ceremonies for Hummel and fellow seniors Lewis Jackson and Ryne Smith will take place after the game.
