Independent Cat Society Celebrates New Rainbow Bridge Memorial Garden

The Independent Cat Society (ICS) celebrated the newly-constructed Rainbow Bridge Garden with a Grand Opening Ceremony on June 23, 2012. Lined with memorial bricks and featuring a patio area, benches, and a bridge with colorful flowers, the garden is a place where beloved animal companions can be celebrated in a meaningful way. Members of the community contributed by purchasing the bricks and helping to fund construction of the garden. Bricks are still available and are encouraged for memorialization of any kind of animal companion.

ICS was fortunate to partner in the project with Claudia Winter from Purdue North Central. Ms. Winter helped in the design and implementation of the garden as part of her senior project for her Construction Engineering and Management Technology degree.

The grand opening event featured live music, including an original piece composed in honor of the garden, raffles, Rainbow Bridge-theme items, and craft activities for kids.

The garden represents not only growth for ICS as a shelter in terms of increasing adoptions, gatherings, and fundraisers, but continued commitment to the growth of the community. Visitors are encouraged to come by and see the new garden, order a memorial brick as a tribute for your own beloved animal companion, or find the newest, furriest member of your family. Adoption hours are Saturdays from 10 AM - 4 PM, Sundays from 1 PM - 4 PM, and other hours by appointment. For more information or to volunteer, call us at (219) 785-4936 or visit www.catsociety.org.
